On Wednesday, September, 25th at 4:00 p.m. The University of Michigan Library will host a reception for the exhibition Hand, Voice & Vision: Artists' Books from Women's Studio Workshop featuring an artist talk by UM alumnae, Toby Millman, who will discuss her experiences completing a residency at the Women’s Studio Workshop to make her book, Facts on the Ground. The Hand, Voice & Vision exhibition, on now until October 21st, presents artists’ books by thirty-six artists published over thirty years by Women’s Studio Workshop. Curated by Kathleen Walkup, the exhibition is a comprehensive retrospective featuring some of the most influential contemporary book artists in America. The forty works in Hand, Voice & Vision celebrate three facets that characterize the artist’s book program at Women’s Studio Workshop: the hand-made mark of the book-maker, the unique voices and viewpoints of a broad and diverse range of artists, and the visionary nature of artwork that forges new directions in the medium of book arts. In 2012, the University of Michigan Library became a repository for the ongoing collection of artists’ books created at the Women’s Studio Workshop. This repository is located in the Art, Architecture and Engineering Library Special Collections.
